James Baldwin described the role of an artist as “to make the world a more human-dwelling place.” The same sentiment applies to social service providers. Sister Carol Schumer, D.C., recognizes her shared humanity with the men she supports in Family Formation classes. To be in solidarity with those whose would-be flourishing is denied – ultimately because it’s perceived as a threat – by our so-called criminal justice system is to be with Christ. We ALL long for connection. Sister Carol spends her days encouraging just that.
